Jewish Heritage Tour of Morocco in 4 days
Day 1 : Casablanca – Rabat – Fez (320Km)
Arrival at Casablanca airport, assistance and transfer to Rabat: the political capital of the Kingdom since 1912. Rabat is a garden city: wide avenues lined with trees, a central park and residential areas for foreign embassies and ministries. After breakfast, the visit of the “Garden City” begins with the Kasbah of the Oudayas, the Hassan Tower, the ramparts of the Royal Palace, the mausoleum of Mohammed V, revered king and grandfather of the current King Mohammed VI. The mausoleum also contains the tomb of King Hassan II, son of Mohammed V. Optional visit of the “Belghazi” Museum, located in a country house 17 miles from Salé to Kenitra, the Belghazi Museum is the first private museum on the African continent. 3 generations of the Belghazi family have amassed a vast collection of traditional Moroccan Jewish and Islamic pieces: 17th century carpets, Jewish temple furniture, wedding clothes, doors and ceilings dating from the 10th century, antique jewellery, musical instruments, original pottery, embroideries, weapons etc.. Continuation to Fez and accommodation, dinner and accommodation.
Day 2 : Fez
After breakfast, visit Fez, the oldest of the imperial cities. Visit of the Medina and its Islamic universities called Medersas, the Karaouine Mosque, the Nejarine fountain. Visit of the famous souks of Fez, optional lunch, in the afternoon: visit of the cemetery where several saints (Rabbi Avrahm, Lala Soulika… etc) are located. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 3 : Fez – Afourer- Marrakech (500 km)
Breakfast, departure for Immouzer du Kandar (Berber village) and Ifrane (a ski resort well known for its carved wooden handicrafts), through the most beautiful cedar forest in Morocco. In Beni Mellal (Visit of Rabbi Chlomo Amar) after you will reach Afourer for an optional lunch and visit of a Jewish saint, Continuation to Marrakech, dinner and accommodation at the hotel.
Day 4 : Marrakech – Ourika – Marrakech (53 km par trajet)
Breakfast at the hotel, Half-day excursion to Ourika in the south of Marrakech, halfway through the fertile Haouz plain, stop in a Berber village run by the inhabitants of the region: discover the authentic way of doing business and the simplicity of daily life.The tour continues along the rivers that stretch at the foot of the mountains: to see the clay and stone hamlets (Ourika is well known for its local pottery). The Berber souk is held on Monday. Possibility to visit the tomb of Salomane Ben Elhans in AGHBALOU. Return to MarrakechDinner and accommodation at the hotel.
